In the latest news from the superyacht yacht sales and yacht brokerage market by Boat International, June proved to be a record month for the cumulative value of the asking price of luxury yachts sold. It should however be noted that this increased figure includes the important sale of the Feadship 86 metre motor yacht Ecstasea (congratulations to Merle Wood).
So far this year fourteen superyachts have been reported sold at a total asking price of over €200 million. This is the first time the €200 mark has been broken in 2009.
The first six months of 2009 has seen 62 motor yachts and 11 sailing yachts with a combined asking price of over €700 million.
June 2009 was similar to May in that the majority of yacht sales were reported after June 15, the secong half of the month.
It is important to note that these statistical figures may be influenced by various reports that some yachts are reportedly selling at up to 30% below their asking price. This skews the asking price data and the unknown real euro value changing hands may be significantly smaller.

The graph chart above, which was also created by BI, displays the value of yacht sales by asking price for the first six months of 2009. While the number of yachts sold in June was less than in any of the previous three months, the overall value has increased.
This can be attributed to the motor yacht ‘Ecstasea effect’ due to her anomalous asking price.
