America’s Cup – Review issue
It seems an eon ago that Alinghi defeated Emirates Team New Zealand by the narrowest margin in America’s Cup and within a week the premier event in yacht racing was turned on its ear.
America’s Cup Valencia – USA-17 seen from Alinghi 5 George Johns/Alinghi
After the agony of the last two and a bit years, the sailing world can now look forward to what many consider to be the ultimate match – a fight between two of the most high performance sailing machines on the planet, with no holds barred on use of technology, and a minimum of rules.
It is a facinating match up, and one that the sailing world will probably never see again.
Sail-World will be providing the best coverage possible from here in Valencia and will be sending each newsletter to its 85,000 newsletter receiving sailing fans.
In this issue we bring you some of the key stories from the last few months – mostly staying away from the legal ins and outs – and concentrating on the development and work up of these magnificent sailing machines and we also include the Friday Night Press Conference’s from Valencia.
We look forward to bringing you the excitement and colour from Valencia.
Good sailing!
Richard Gladwell
Sail-World’s America’s Cup News Editor
Your friends who do not get regular Sail-World Newsletters can receive Sail-World’s FREE America’s Cup newsletter click here and select the America’s Cup newsletter and at the same time chose any other Sail-World publications that they wish to receive.
Richard Gladwell has been covering the America’s Cup since 1987, and reported extensively on the 1988 Big Boat vs The Cat ‘Match’. Over the last 30 months, he has reported in detail on the ups and downs which have at last led to Valencia
The Sail-World America’s Cup newsletter will follow along line of similar publications it produced for the 32nd America’s Cup, the 2008 Olympics, the 2009 Louis Vuitton Pacific Series and of course, the highly popular Sydney Hobart race series.
Gladwell comments ”The newsletter will be published using the same software and web applications that drive Sail-World’s publications 24×7 every day of the year. That means we can provide a mix of video, audio, reports and images – all cut into the one story, if it requires.
‘The Match will be live on the Internet and on Cable channels in some areas of the world, however that doesn’t suit everyone with their particular time zones, and for many who are sleeping or aqt work during the racing, Sail-World will provide their most up to date coverage – all delivered to their Inbox.’

Last week SNG let go an avalanche of papers to obscure several simple questions. The Swiss defender has long appeared to be suffering from snow-blindness over the fact that the 33rd Match is not a normal regatta. It is not even a normal America’s Cup.
