This year’s Green Boat Show is bigger, better and GREENER than ever before! Now in its fifth year the show is the longest running boat show in the whole of the UK showcasing green energy, sustainable “low carbon” boating and environmentally-friendly practices.
This year there is a special guest to start the day off with aplomb – Adrian Ramsey, The Deputy Leader of the Green Party, will be opening the show this Sunday (Sept 26th) at 10am in the main arena.
About 1,500 people are expected to turn out for the event where they will be able to take to the water in a wide range of boats including canoes, kayaks, electric, pedal and rowing boats, yachts and dinghies. Visitors have the opportunity to travel to the show by electric water taxi, operating from Wroxham. Demonstrations of rowing, paddling, pedalling, sailing, electric and biofuel-powered boats as well as fuel cells, solar panels and wind turbines will be available throughout the day. Visitors will also be able to try out a range of electric bikes and experience the amazing Green Boat Show Smoothie Maker in action!
In addition to the boats on show, Broadland District Council’s energy bus will be promoting ways of reducing household energy and giving away free energy saving items. The Broads Authority will be providing practical advice on ways to help improve the quality of water in our rivers and offering free green boating products.
There will be a large marquee with engaging displays from local companies and environmental organisations. Visitors can relish excellent local produce from a wide range of light refreshment stalls and the Norfolk Dixieland Street Band will be providing music to accompany the exhibits throughout the day. It promises to be a really wonderful day out for all the family, with children’s activities and workshops including Puppet Shows and Green Story Telling, all in the beautiful surroundings of this Broads beauty spot.
Admission is £3, including car parking, whilst the 20 min water taxi trip from Wroxham, including show admission, is £5. A regular water taxi return service will run all day from Granary Staithe by Wroxham Bridge, starting at 10.00am. There is also generous free car parking in fields close to the broad.
The show is organised by the owners of Salhouse Broad, who kindly donate the broad and surrounding land, and the Broads Authority with support from the Electric Boat Association.
