The Abu Dhabi Yacht Show to be held on February 25-27, 2010 at the beautiful Yas Marina promises to lay a foundation stone towards lowering the carbon footprint for its 2010 edition. For this, the show which exclusively focuses on the luxury superyacht and megayacht sector has collaborated with the UAE’s Ecological Footprint Programme. The show looks forward to make environmentally-friendly policies and get co-operation among the public and private sectors, including non-governmental organizations so as to move towards a more sustainable future.
Leisure and sports is the domain yachts have been seen so far. However, the strict national and international regulations are always adhered to while making larger and faster yachts. For this the Abu Dhabi Yacht Show has made an effort by its internal reduction strategies and purchase of carbon credits. Even the Events Manager of Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, Faisal Al Sheikh states that they are thinking over including an environmental policy across the city’s major business and events.
With an aim of lowering the emission levels by 100% by 2012, a greenhouse gas assessment of the 2nd Abu Dhabi Yacht Show will also be carried out by EcoVentures, the leading emissions reductions firm of the Middle East. The assessment will function as a benchmark for future shows towards measuring carbon footprint. The Abu Dhabi Show is also set to purchase carbon credits required to offset the show’s estimated carbon footprint. This will facilitate in compensating for all energy consumption and a percentage of the fuel utilized by yachts to reach Abu Dhabi for the show.
The Show association extends all its support towards the Abu Dhabi Government for making a better future for emirate by promoting responsible use of non renewable energy resources for reduction of carbon emissions. Armen Vartanian, EcoVentures’ director confesses that their association with the Abu Dhabi Yacht Show has been very exciting. He also added that it is a very encouraging move made by one of the regional yachting industry’s popular events to set an example for organizers of the other upcoming regional trade shows.
