JUDGES COMMENTS
A good selection of comprehensive and wide ranging refit and rebuild projects were placed before the judges. In other years each could well have been a winner but, on rare occasions, an exceptional work will outshine all others by a large degree. This year was one of those rare occasions and Blue Bird was, in the view of the judges, that exceptional work of reconstruction. The research, dedication, craftsmanship and, it must be said, cost of this project were all quite outstanding and the result has transformed a yacht that was originally designed by GL Watson for speed ace Sir Donald Campbell in 1937 into better than new condition while seamlessly incorporating all the amenities and comforts of modern life afloat. …..
