The Burger Boat Company, a luxury motor yacht and sailboat builder based in the USA, has announced a strategic decision to invest in training their employees by way of the development of Burger Yachts University. This initiative displays the yacht company’s commitment to both their current work but also its future growth.

Pictured is a Burger / Camper And Nicholson 125 foot motor sailing yacht design.

Burger Yachts believe that the original decision to invest in its employees actually led to the development of Burger University. The university consisted of a series of courses and training programs targeted to improving the quality of work. This had the effect of eliminating waste, mapping and developing better processes allowing for improved work efficiency, continually improving the business culture and increasing employee health and safety awareness.

The yacht training is designed to encourage open communication throughout the Burger organisation as well as emphasize the importance of working towards building the best and most efficient business culture. The courses are offered to production employees and results in certifications and techniques for continuous product improvements and developments.

Burger employees also gain knowledge of the company structure, policies and procedures and how to work more effectively and efficiently within the scope of their job responsibilities.

Burger also offers non career specific training, such as consumer driven health care training, safety training and work instruction training. Burger Boats has a general policy to continuously evaluate current courses and implement new courses as the need arise.

It will be very interesting to see how the yachting education initiative goes and whether other yacht building companies will trial their version of the education for employees concept that burger yachts believes in so worthwhile.

Burger Boat Company designs and builds custom yachts, in aluminum and or steel, ranging in sizes to 200′ (60m). Since 1863 Burger has been recognized internationally for design, quality construction, seaworthiness, reliability and is the most respected custom yacht builder in America.
