An owner with a vision can make a dynamic impact on a project. The clients were the biggest inspiration when designing the 120’ Nordhavn motor yacht “Aurora”. Because they are such experienced yacht owners, they were able to communicate their needs with ease. The clients desired a look that was simple and elegant yet contemporary in its styling.
The design and interior detailing of the 120’ Nordhavn superyacht “Aurora” was immensely fulfilling. Destry Darr Designs were challenged each step along the way to take the design to the next level. The team combined classic and modern styles with clean lines to create a fresh new look.
Destry Darr Designs had the opportunity to create not only the architectural detailing of the interior but also the custom built in furniture and all of the contemporary styled loose furniture throughout the interior and exterior for Nordhavn to fabricate. Various exotic woods and carved details are integrated with the custom designed loose furniture.
The interior features rich American cherry joinery with burl and walnut accents. A combination of polished chrome and satin nickel details, hardware and light fixtures are used throughout. Different types of unique marble, onyx, and mosaic stonework throughout add to the details.
The clients were very specific about their Galley desires as well as their various appliances throughout the rest of the Aurora yacht. They are passionate about cooking. Destry Darr Designs wanted to make sure to incorporate as much as possible for them but also wanted to make sure that they had realistic expectations of what was possible.
They continued to give their input until together they found a layout that best suited their needs and provided a functional Galley that is representative of their individuality. The Owners also requested a neutral backdrop with colours to be brought in with art and accessories.
On the Main Deck, the rich American Cherry is set off by the creme coloured carpet, marble floors and sofas. In the staterooms, neutral fabric wall panels bring out the richness of the cherry wainscoting below.
