It will be a long time before, we find a sure-shot solution to the problem of depleting fossil fuels. But the present awareness of environmental problems is definitely doing wonders by atleast taking baby steps towards a green eco-friendly sources of energy. The green energy enthusiast are trying hard to harness renewable energy from almost all the naturally available sources. We can see how the global awakening for using green energy resources has created an impetus, to build an infrastructure in order to mitigate the harmful effects created by the interference of man with the natural ecosystem. Even the global yacht industry is contributing in its own way. One such genuine effort has been made by a yacht designer Erik Sifrer by designing a yacht called Green Jet, which would meet all the eco-friendly green standards.

Green Jet is a 187 foot long hi-tech luxurious yacht which can be powered by both, wind and hydrogen energy. Green jet will be the first ever green sail yacht that would use the same principle of a motor yacht. For propulsion, it will make use of the wind blowing over the water surface by using a mechanism known as Aero-sail system. The Aero-sails are directed by hydraulic motors which are designed to pull the sails to their full height in 30-40 seconds. Each and every system on board will be computerized and can be controlled by a touch screen. A specially designed automatic computerized system senses the wind velocity and direction and define the best position of the sail in order to gain maximum propulsion and also to avoid the usage of its twin 950 kilowatt engines as much as possible. The automatic system does almost all the navigation on its own, reducing the time of the crew on sails.

That is not all, while designing the Green Jet, due consideration has also been given to the aesthetic part. Probably that would be an understatement, for Green Jet is strikingly beautiful yacht. No aspect has been left out to impress people by its luxury, beauty and grandeur. The main attraction of Green Jet is a pool right in its center. This somewhat divides the yacht into two parts, yacht owner’s side and crew side. The pool side of the yacht boasts of a Jacuzzi with a futuristic design. The interiors are also made extremely luxurious and have been given a futuristic touch to bear the burden of its owner’s whim’s and fancies. At night, the yacht turns into a dazzling place with the help of sales lights, resembling a discotheque.

Thus Green Jet embodies the ultimate blend of futuristic technology and design, and the age old traits of luxury and glamour that a yacht symbolizes.
