A 29.1 meter fast cruising sloop, Alcanara is the new creation of Dubois yachts for an Australian client. Presently under construction with Steve Ward in Perth, Alcanara has been inspired from Dubious’s own successful creation Margret Ann that was launched in 2004.
The owner’s of Alcanara were quite impressed with the design and performance of Margaret Ann, and in spite of surveying the whole market couldn’t find a better thoroughly seaworthy, elegant and fast cruising yacht at just under the 100 foot mark. However, the owners wanted that the yacht should have a contemporary look with some small changes to the interior layout and superstructure.
Dubois yacht was quite confident that they would achieve this requirement because of the involvement of Steve in W.A, who built the fabulous 2 tonner Police Car, in 1979 for Dubois. Police car won the Admiral’s Cup for Australia in that year, followed by several other trophies. Actually, it was Police car that put Dubois Design Company on the World racing yacht scene. Steve, the same builder who made Police car is now constructing another Dubois design after 26 years and that too from the same material – aluminum. Thus, Dubois Design is confident that nothing can go wrong.
