Boat International Media is delighted to present the Voyager’s Award – an exciting new category honouring an extraordinary sea adventurer at the World Superyacht Awards 2010.

The Voyager’s Award, proudly sponsored by Porto Montenegro, will be presented to the owner or charterer of a yacht of over 30-metres in length that has undertaken a voyage of an unusual or exploratory nature between 1 January 2008 and 31st December 2009.

The winner of this remarkable award will be invited to attend the World Superyacht Awards gala evening at London’s Guildhall on Saturday 22 May 2010, where they will be presented with the coveted Neptune trophy.

How do I make a nomination for the Voyager’s Award?

Please go to worldsuperyachtawards.com/voyagers-award and complete the nomination form online.
After submitting your entry, you will be contacted by the World Superyacht Awards administration team requesting the following information:

- An account of the voyage amounting to a maximum of 1,500 words and a chart/charts illustrating the vessel’s track.

- Up to 30 digital photographs illustrating the voyage. Each should have a minimum resolution of 150 dpi with its largest dimension of no less than 8 inches (20cms)

The closing date for submissions is Friday 9 April 2010.

Porto Montenegro – “The New Port of Cool” (The Financial Times, June 2009)

The world is already talking about Montenegro’s stunning beauty and that has as much to do with Porto Montenegro as it does with Montenegro’s unspoiled coastline. Canadian entrepreneur Peter Munk had the vision to see Montenegro’s potential as a nautical playground long before most, and in surrounding himself with a group of equally visionary investors has established Montenegro as the premier yachting destination in the Mediterranean.

Porto Montenegro’s marina opened in June 2009 with 85 berths on two jetties. In June 2010, jetties 3 and 4 will provide another 100-plus berths, the first residential buildings will be complete, the Lido pool opens and there will be restaurants, shops and cafés to enjoy.

In autumn 2010, the Compositeworks facility opens across the bay and, in spring 2011, the Yacht Club will be inaugurated as additional residential buildings and amenities are completed. Porto Montenegro are delighted to sponsor the Voyager’s Award in 2010 and will host the World Superyacht Awards Judges’ Meeting in 2011.

For submission enquiries and for further information on the Voyager’s Award, please contact:

The 11m Limousine custom yacht tender by New Zealand Company Vaudrey Miller is a personalised owner transport built for the remarkable superyacht ‘A’. Styled by Philippe Starck, with naval architecture by Patrick Banfield, the ‘Limo’ is so unique it demands attention.

It reflects the artistry of the mothership and satisfies demanding operational and lifestyle specifications.

It’s sumptuous interior has 1.9 metres standing headroom and a state-of-the-art entertainment system. Air-conditioning, 240V AC, refrigeration, fresh water and black water systems are integrated on board.

Detailing is completed to an exceptionally high standard throughout. The varnished teak and holly deck appears to be crafted in a traditional manner, however, an unseen non-slip texture is incorporated in the holly inlay.

All major hatches are remotely activated and hydraulically powered, as is the recessed mast carrying the navigation lights.

Vaudrey Miller, located in Auckland, New Zealand, specialise in crafting superyacht tenders.

Warren Vaudrey and Simon Miller have built a solid international reputation and enjoyed repeat business from high-profile clients throughout the world.

Vaudrey Miller is expert in constructing lightweight epoxy composite structures; carbon fibre is utilised on a daily basis and resin infusion is used when appropriate.

To ensure designers’ and stylists’ intentions are communicated clearly and concisely to the shop floor, Vaudrey Miller employs experienced project mangers to coordinate each contract, and a qualified naval architect to head the design office. It also maintains an engineering machine shop on site.

Yacht broker Marco Vandoni of Ocean Independence announced that Oceanfast’s SuperYacht Nomad has been sold. The European client viewed the yacht right at the end of the 2009 Monaco Yacht Show, after being introduced to Marco Vandoni by Philippe Mahot of Navigator. All the further negotiation was then left to the professional staff of OCI.

The 69 metre superyacht was built in Australia by Oceanfast back in 2003 as ‘Aussie Rules’. Then she went on being owned by a well known American yachtsman who gave her the name Floridian, adding also a helipad on her upper aft deck. After this ownership she was renamed once again, and gained the name which she bears today – Nomad.

She accommodates up to twelve guests in one master cabin, three double cabins and one twin cabin.

In october 2009 we posted a video of Alexander Isaac’s revolutionary sailing yacht design concept Ankida.

Now, a few months later, Alexander Isaac of Lila Lou revealed that he and his design team created an animation of Ankida, providing potential clients with a better understanding of the mechanism of this amazing sailing yacht.

When Ankida’s design was revealed for the first time back in November 2009 Lila Lou made a statement that best describes this ingenious design:
“We have developed ‘Ankida’ in a manner that we see is the natural progression for sailing yachts, the most fundamental aspect of which is the mast, rig and keel configuration, moving away from a traditional centre line mast arrangement in order to structurally integrate the entire set-up with the hull and superstructure, making all wind generated forces work homogeneously with the craft, thus maximizing the propulsion efficiency.” They also explained further: “We developed Ankida’s mast(s) and keel(s) to be structurally integral, rather than applied, to the overall design, in order that the forces created are more homogeneously distributed, working in favor of the performance, it was from the mast design that the sails followed”.

The government in Cypus has finally given a nod for resuming the construction work on Limassol Marina owing to the signing of an operating agreement with the owners of the Marina. Limassol Marina is an exceptional waterfront development situated on the islands south coast. It has been planned by a world-popular team of architects and engineers. This Marina will be launching its new yachts in autumn 2012 and will be costing at 350 million euros.

Camper & Nicholsons who have made this announcement along with Limassol Marina Ltd are working to make this project a success. The powerful Limassol Marina Ltd. includes a vast team of developers, construction firms and investors, whose invaluable knowledge and established recognition will be very precious for the project.

The Marina is likely to have a unique level of standard and service to the yachting in Cyprus. It will offer close to 1,000 berths from 8m to 70m, and will be able to house superyachts up to 100m. Every berth is equipped to have its own supply of fresh water and electricity, and cable TV, high-speed internet, telephone and wi-fi access. This also includes haul out and shore-side technical facilities.

Limassol Marina will also consist of a dry dock and workshops for the repair and refit work of light boat. Moreover, it will also encompass refueling and waste removal facilities. A wide array of residential properties on the island and peninsula of the marina will be able to draw huge advantages from dedicated berths so as to enter into the boat directly from the homes.

At a short distance from the Limassol, the people will have access to the ultimate modern marina protected by a new breakwater. This will consist of remarkable restaurants, villas and shops built to flawlessly match with the city’s traditional harbor, old town and medieval castle. This beautiful and highly advance marina is built to house almost every vessel – from the regular sailing yachts to the extremely advanced megayachts.

The Venice International Boat Show has always been a prestigious event for everyone in the yacht industry. The show which is in its 9th edition is going to be held on 18th March 2010. This year it is expected to commence with an aim of promoting its status in the international domain and also for becoming a focal point for all the business of the Eastern Mediterranean market.

According to a 2009 study by the Research & Intelligence Division of BMps, the yacht markets are steadily improving. Further, for the span of 2010 to 2012, the average rate of development for the Italian yachting market is expected to touch a 5%. However, the capacity of the Italian nautical industry to accumulate the trends of newly developing markets will also hold an impact on the recovery of the market. This factor along with others that are vital for the growth of the Italian and international superyacht sector will be the major concerns in the next conferences scheduled for the 2010 Venice Boat Show. Some of the topics featuring in the conference would be Venice Yacht Hub: a hub for the development of the nautical industry in the East Mediterranean (18 March), Venice as the training center for the nautical sector (20 March) and Tourist harbors between European regions (21 March).

Lorenzo Pollicardo who is the coordinator of the event believes that at this point of time Venice needs to be the best superyacht hub for the whole East Med. This will provide many yacht enthusiasts and tourists with a unique and highly social opportunity clubbed with the superlative facilities of local marine operators. This boat show which will concentrate on superyachts is likely to start a new successful market phase in Italy.

Lorenzo Pollicardo will lead the 2010 Italian Superyacht Forum on the 14th and 15th April. Mare Maggio (May Sea) from 14-16 May and Pianeta Acqua (Planet Water) from 3-4 June are others in the group of appointments at this Venice show. Moreover, there are many ventures like Venice Capital of the Sea that are reportedly going to churn out revenues of around 5 million euros to the Venice area.

Alloy Yachts,New Zealand has bagged a new superyacht order. This is a significantly motivating step with reference to the dearth of new orders placed across the globe throughout the last year. The yacht – Hull number AY43 – is yet to be named and is presently under construction at the Alloy Yachts yard. The builders had received its order in the middle of 2009. However they started working on AY43 only three weeks ago.

This 47m aluminum M/Y is being constructed at the behest of the previous Alloy Yachts client. It is 41.73m on the waterline, and complies with Lloyds classification. Dubois has provided his expertise to design the yacht. The interiors have been styled by Donald Starkey. With a beam of 9.19m and a draft of 2.21m, AY43 can cut the waters at the speed of 17km with a cruising speed of 14.5km on CAT engines.
There are several projects that are progressing at Alloy Yachts. These include the 44m S/Y AY40 and Imagine II, which will be submitted in May 2010. Others in the unique list are AY41 and AY43. Work on AY42, Paraiso, has been withdrawn for the time being. Another characteristic creation of Alloy Yachts is expected to be the Phillipe Briand styled S/Y AY41, which is under wraps and will be handed over at the end of 2010.

This new order has definitely proved that the Alloy Yachts are far stronger as a yard and highly acknowledged by their clientele vis-à-vis many other builders in the yacht industry. They are few of the notable shipyards in the world who have managed to celebrate their 25th birthday. The yard believes in delivering excellent performances to further strengthen their growth and success for the future.

The Superyacht Design Summit will hosted by Superyacht Events, a part of the Yacht Report Group, at the Design Centre – Chelsea Harbour London on 22nd March 2010 for addressing few of the recent concerns relating to the present superyacht design. A host of eminent designers, suppliers and industry professionals will grace the occasion to give their suggestions and opinions. The show will begin with the dialogue on the issue of ‘Inspired Plagiarism versus Intellectual Property: Understanding the Ownership of Design’.

The same summit which was a success in 2009 has managed to gather the panels of experts for resolving crucial matters pertaining to the design industry this year too. The central point will be the legalities around the ideas and the industry such as intellectual property.

The debate will be conducted in the morning after a social breakfast with audiences amidst the presence of Mariacristina Rapisardi of Rapisardi Intellectual Property and the celebrated and widely popular designer Tim Heywood, who has contributed in making the famous superyachts like the 90m Ice, 71m Kogo and 110m Darius.

This Summit will be a joint effort with the illustrious ‘London Design Week’ scheduled for 21st to 26th March. Over and above the regular events, the summit will also represent some of the newest collections for more than 400 international brands.

The Kaleidescape Mini System is designed for your main salon. It’s an elegant addition to your yacht, and its quiet operation won’t distract you from your movies and music. Compact and affordable, it’s also the first to include a remote control, so it’s ready to entertain right out-of-the-box.

The base Mini System holds up to 75 DVDs or 825 CDs – the perfect “starter” system. As your needs grow, so does your Kaleidescape System. Expand to more areas in your yacht by adding players. Add more storage by adding Disk Cartridges or servers. Or, add a Mini System to increase both!

Giovanni Romero, a yacht photographer who is in Gibraltar, recently took a photo of superyacht SUNRAYS, as seen here.

Motor yacht SUNRAYS is based on the proven technical Oceanco Y700 platform. Her exterior is by Björn Johansson Design and her interior by Terence Disdale Design under the specific guidance of her owners. Not least because of her eye-catching teal coloured hull, Y705 is certain to stand out amongst the yachts in the Mediterranean this summer.

All exterior decks on SuperYacht SUNRAYS have been designed to include water features which blend perfectly with the beautifully curved superstructure. Built in features, such as table tops concealed in the ceiling, make Y705 suitable for a variety of functions from an intimate dinner to a cocktail party.

Heesen Yachts has announced the launch of motor yacht SKY, hull number 14750 built at the dutch yard. Superyacht SKY is 49.80m LOA and Heesen Yachts’ largest displacement yacht to date.

Photo of SKY is by Dick Holthuis.

The 50m full displacement luxury yacht SKY was launched from the Heesen shipyard in Oss in the presence of her owners, who christened her SKY.

M/Y SKY is a fully customized 50m motor yacht of over 500GT (approx. 650GT). The superyacht features naval architecture by Heesen’s in-house naval architects, whilst her exterior styling was drawn by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects.

The yacht’s contemporary and masculine interior, decorated predominantly with Makassar cabinetry and featuring carbon-fibre and stainless steel detailing, was designed by the New York-based interior designers Mojo-Stumer Associates.

Mark Stumer says: “The architecture of the interior was created to reinforce a linear spatial quality without sacrificing internal headroom. Mundane elements of everyday life, such as televisions, kitchen equipment, and storage units, have been concealed to express immaculate symmetry. This yacht has the window glazing employing an external butt-joint to eliminate dominant vertical mullions”.

Superyacht SKY can accommodate 12 guests in four guest cabins and one owner’s suite. The owner’s suite is located forward on the main deck and features a bathroom equipped with a custom-made steam shower.

The two twin-bedded guest cabins are located amidships on the lower deck, aft of the two VIP double cabins. All cabins are equipped with private en suite shower rooms.

SKY boasts a fully equipped fitness area on the sundeck, where the custom made octagonal spa pool occupies the forward element of this partially sheltered deck area.

Powered by twin MTU engines, SKY can reach a top speed of 23 knots, and has a range of 3,200 nautical miles.

Motor yacht SKY is scheduled for delivery in April 2010, after intensive sea trials in the North Sea.
