Klipsch has been named as the distributor and licensee of the “LightSpeaker”. The US-based speaker manufacturer Klipsch is the one responsible for the winner of the 2010 CES Innovation Award, the Kilpsch LightSpeaker, that was developed by Kadence Designs LLC. It combines the efficiency of LED lighting with wireless ambient sound into a single unit that installs like a light bulb.

“It offers brilliant light, reduces energy usage and creates a multi-room ambient music system in mere minutes,” says Paul Jacobs, president of Klipsch. “There’s no wiring, no retrofitting and no software to deal with.”

The LightSpeaker, although not especially exciting from an aesthetic point of view, has been designed to include a dimmable LED bulb and full-range speaker, which fits both a five-inch and six-inch recessed light fixture, with a standard Edison socket. The speaker itself uses a 20-watt high-performance, low-distortion digital amplifier to deliver energy efficient sound. In addition, the LightSpeaker’s 2.5-inch micro cellulose polymer cone with integrated high frequency disperser, uses digital signal processing to optimise high and low frequency output for a full spectrum of sound.

Although Klipsch have yet to supply this product to the marine industry and currently only supply the US market, the LightSpeaker could be something for the future because it means less wiring and faster installation time. Additionally, it is suitable for most interior environments.

“While the LightSpeaker is not weatherproof, it can go in moisture-prone areas such as bathrooms,” explains Sarah Knight, Communications Manager of the Klipsch Group.

The Lightspeaker can be used in hanging light fixtures, as well as floor and table lamps and Klipsch hope to launch new accessories.
