Lunabrite, a recent launch in the yacht industry, is a light strip chargeable either by room or sunlight in only 5 – 30 minutes. This solar activated strip is lighted up for almost eight hours without using any batteries, wiring or bulb. This kind of light technology also features application like emergency lighting, for onboard nightclubs and bars and for negotiating steps and passerelles. Though the illumination is not as bright as wired LED lighting, it is rechargeable and lightweight too. Highly durable, lunabrite can be fixed on to any surface because it doesn’t emit heat. The product releases an accent glow in darkness against the reflecting light and doesn’t light the surrounding area. Moreover, besides being anti-microbial and non-toxic, the product is highly resistant to tough outdoor conditions, salt water and UV. Thus it becomes a safe tool when used around children, pets or water.

The interiors and the exteriors of the yacht would have an urban look after installing this feature. According to Barbara Sommer, the general manager of Lunabrite, the product is very convenient with reference to improved night visibility or contour accents and provides a very soft elegant illumination. While the patent remains pending, the product is available in small, medium and large sizes (3/16″, 5/16″ and 3/8″).

There are also different colors available in Lunabrite like arctic blue, lime light and spring green. However, these can be seen only in darkness as in day light they are all off-white.
