Maxwell ceases production of the Freedom Windlass Series

After over fifteen years on the international marine market, Maxwell has ceased the production of its iconic Freedom Windlass Series.

Arguably one of the most innovative and distinctly different automatic rope/chain windlasses ever to be seen in the marine industry, the Freedom Series incorporated features that set performance standards that were often imitated but never surpassed.

Installed on boats from North America to Norway and from the United Kingdom to the UAE, Freedom windlasses not only graced the bows of all sorts of pleasure craft, but were often installed on fast patrol boats and other such similar commercial craft, where sleek lines, unencumbered foredeck and rapid deployment and retrieval of the anchor, utilising a combined rope/chain rode system was required.

But time marches on; market trends and demands change, necessitating even better and more innovative, not to mention more economical, anchoring systems. Maxwell, always a market leader with a philosophy of “innovation by design”, has recently introduced a stainless steel series of automatic rope/chain windlasses that are worthy successors to their famous Freedom predecessors. Maxwell will continue to supply Freedom parts and service for several more years, ensuring current owners of many more trouble-free anchorages.

The up-to-the-minute RC Series, heralds a brand new era of windlass design excellence. Visit the Maxwell web site: or your closest Maxwell dealer, in order to discover the myriad features and benefits of Maxwell’s latest automatic vertical rope/chain windlasses for boats from 15 feet (4.5 metres) to 55 feet (16 metres).
