Miami approaches, Plastiki prepares, Coral Sea battle update.

The countdown is on, just two days to go until the 69th Miami International Boat Show gets underway. While organisers are counting on a bounce back, be it ever so slight, in terms of visitor numbers, exhibitors are anxiously waiting for sales results before gauging consumer sentiment. All industry eyes will be on the first show of the year. Good luck, good trade to all!

This week, along with an assortment of products launched and industry activity, we feature the Marina Industry Assoc of Australia forecast for the year ahead in terms of its own initiatives, Riviera’s new dealer in the US and news of another victim of tough times – Salthouse Marine Limited of New Zealand is in the hands of receivers. It’s not all doom and gloom though: the receiver himself says interest is high from buyers in Australia and Asia keen to put their hats in the ring for the iconic motor yacht marque.

On a green and clean note, the Plastiki, a vessel made of PET containers, is poised to set sail from San Francisco to Sydney – an homage to the voyage of the KonTiki but more importantly, highlighting the importance of recycling. Can’t wait to read their blogs and see the impact of their mission as they take on the seas for three months before arriving in Australia.

Keep in touch with your news and views. They are appreciated.
