Blohm+Voss is a German shipyard boasting of an excellent class of yachts whether it is the first luxury mega yacht constructed by them in 1931, the popular battleship Bismarck of 1939 or the current 96m Superyacht Orca (to be introduced in 2010).

Off lately, M/Y Eclipse is making news with its detailed round of sea trials, inspection and repairs. Considered to be the largest yacht in the world, Eclipse was a challenging project due to its ground breaking proportions. The builders of the yacht are making all the efforts to incorporate the ultimate cruising standards into the yacht before it is delivered to its owners. The yacht is also being given a fresh coat of paint, updated navigation system and helipad configuration.

There were rumors floating in the industry that Roman Abramovich would be taking M/Y Eclipse to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. But since his arrival in South Africa last week via private jet, the rumors have died down.

Additional sea trials will also be conducted to ascertain the strength of the German engineering of M/Y Eclipse. This will also help in ironing out its creases including engine vibrations. Though the significant details of the yacht are still under wraps, what is known is that the yacht is one of the largest and most complex superyachts till date. Besides the unique designs of Terence Disdale, M/Y Eclipse showcases latest technology such as a private submersible, and enhanced security measures for the owner.
