ASK Yacht Design (Adrien Jousset) BMT Nigel Gee (naval architect Sylvain Julien) show their new 71.90 meter motor yacht design called project Ostria.

The mega yacht design called Ostria features an innovative and radical exterior styling but in keeping with the times inside the focus has been on producing a feasible solution to reduce the environmental impact of a superyacht.

Environmentally friendly and ‘green designs’ are a step in the right direction but yacht designers need a balance and compromise in their designs. That means style and function need to also play a pivotal role in yacht design. With her onboard facilities Ostria is the result of the convergence of these challenging and often antagonistic aims.

The design allows for a large summer lounge with recreational facilities including sauna and gymnasium to be situated where the machinery room is traditionally located on a yacht. This motor yacht’s guests will therefore have a unique experience of proximity to the sea – in a level of comfort that cannot be reached by a traditional yacht beach club.

The 72 meter Ostria motor yacht concept is a low carbon emission and reduced fuel consumption yacht design with the aim of reducing the overall energy consumption. Examples of energy savings:

- diesel electric propulsion plant will provide the necessary flexibility to take advantage of secondary, renewable, carbon free means of energy production (existing or near term technology).

- The Ostria superyacht design has 370 m2 of solar panels, and a 4 m tall retractable wind turbine. These features are estimated to reduce the amount of carbon emission by approximately 800 tonnes per year on the motor yacht by creating a reduction of fuel consumption. The mega yacht’s solar panel and wind turbine installation have been designed to become a fully integrated feature of the vessel style.

ASK Yacht Design (Adrien Jousset) BMT Nigel Gee (naval architect Sylvain Julien), have been selected as one of the five finalists in the recent World Superyacht Awards in the category “Young Designer of the Year 2009” for their innovative design .
