Queensland’s leading yacht club, the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron (RQYS) in Australia, is seeking an experienced and self-motivated person to fill the fulltime role of Regatta and Sailing Manager.
Situated at Manly in tropical Queensland, the Club conducts Australia’s standout yacht regattas on the beautiful waters of Moreton Bay, including Sail Brisbane, the international Olympic & Invited classes yacht regatta held each November and more recently, Queensland Youth Week, the largest youth yacht regatta in Australia, with 278 sailors in attendance.

Established in 1885, RQYS can claim Olympic gold medals, world champions, America’s Cup sailors along with national and state champion sailors, many who have progressed through the Club’s Youth Academy program and Queensland Development Squad.
With its sprawling grassed rigging lawns and the latest in yacht launching facilities, the friendly Club is the perfect venue for off-the-beach classes and is considered to Australia’s leading club for dinghy, catamaran yacht and Etchells class racing.
RQYS and is the home of the Queensland Academy of Sport and Queensland Development Squad. In 2012, it will host six Australian championships, four world championships and numerous state and regional yacht regattas for sailors aged eight to 80.
Given the above, the role of Regatta and Sailing Manager will be challenging and varied, requiring a dedicated professional who knows boating back to front.
Applicants must hold a State Race Officer certificate, have extensive experience in organising yacht regattas and events, be used to working with large numbers of volunteers with varying levels of qualifications and experience, demonstrate strong administration abilities at a high level and have sound computer skills, including use of sailing software.
Excellent written and spoken English skills are essential, and a National or International Race officer certificate would be advantageous, as would extensive sailing experience in Olympic classes and yachts.
A formal business qualification would be highly desirable, as would experience in working with state and national sailing organisations, along with an entrepreneurial flair and a proven history at administering large sailing regattas and implementing sailing programs at all levels.
The Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron invites applicants from Australia wide and internationally to fill what will be a busy but rewarding position, which will require a fair amount of weekend work.
Closing date for applicants is 18 November, 2011 and applications should be made in writing and sent with your resume to Paul Hughes, General Manager, Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, email: paul.hughes@rqys.com.au
