The Rainbow Warrior III superyacht was christened and handed over to Greenpeace today at a special launch ceremony at the Fassmer Shipyard in Berne, near Bremen, Germany. Boasting a length of 58 metres and featuring two 50 metre A-frame aluminium masts, this latest incarnation bearing the revered Rainbow Warrior name is the first to be purpose-built and not converted from another vessel. Befitting its green charter for environmental protection and sustainability, the motor-assisted Greenpeace yacht possesses 1,300 m2 of sail area enabling engine-free cruising in the majority of situations. Renowned Dutch-based specialist for premium mast and rigging equipment, Rondal, had the honour to fit out the newest addition to the Rainbow Warrior yacht family – and their brand of choice to supply the running rigging was Gleistein Ropes.
The launching ceremony of the sailing yacht Rainbow Warrior III coincides with the 40th anniversary of the founding of Greenpeace. It also marks the dawn of a new era for global environmental consciousness. Thomas Schlaetzer, Managing Director of Gleistein Ropes, is delighted that ropes from Gleistein will be aboard the new Rainbow Warrior superyacht as it sets out on its quest to promote sustainability and greater environmental awareness and protection: “It is an extremely proud moment to see that our ropes are on board of this latest Greenpeace campaign vessel as it is launched. Today also represents a fitting day for us to look within ourselves and consider what we can do in respect to the environment. It is important to be aware of the big picture and continually remind oneself that one’s own actions make a difference. As an industrial manufacturing company, we are aware of our special responsibilities and it is something we take very seriously. Our contribution is naturally not limited to indirect instances such as having our ropes on the new Rainbow Warrior yacht – a recent example is the signing of a contract with German green energy provider, LichtBlick, who will supply us with power from 100% renewable energy sources in the future. With today’s launch, we hope that the message of global environmental awareness – and action – is taking another significant step forward.”
