According to the latest reports, SY Drumbeat has gained the first place at the New Zealand Marine Cup: Kiwi Kawau Challenge this year. To be held on 4th March, the NZ Marine Cup: Kiwi Kawau Challenge is a one day competition for sailing and motor superyacht participants. It will begin from Auckland Harbor and move to Bon Accord Harbor on Kawau Island. The event will also comprise of the prize giving ceremony, BBQ and entertainment.
Drumbeat already holds considerable experience in racing, but will be sailing against its current owner for the first time. Presently, the sailing boat is on a world cruise with Auckland being one of the ports to be visited. Once it is through with the maintenance work at Orams Marine and the NZ Marine Cup, the ketch will sail around New Zealand before setting on for a world tour.
At the time of its introduction in 2002, Drumbeat was known as Salperton. However according to the words of Mark Wightman, NZ Marine chairman, it was considered to be the biggest luxury craft ever made in New Zealand during that time. The boat exudes great Kiwi craftsmanship and is expected to gain more recognition in the days to come.
