ll Sovereign, a 27 meter sailing yacht by Wally, caught fire on 2nd in the premises of STP Palma. According to the sources, the fire began in the engine room of the yacht and had spread really fast. The yard’s staff did their best to control the flames until the fire fighter came and set off the fire. The fire extinguishing process took almost three hours, wherein foam suppressant was used to bring down the flames. There were no incidents of injury reported, however a few crew members suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation.
People of the yard were also worried that another Wally yacht – the 28.7 m Open Season, was also located close to the Sovereign and might have also underwent damage by the flames. However, the report of the same is yet to arrive. The yacht insurance provider, Pantaenius had also arrived at the sight to asses the situation and to find the root cause of the fire. The report of the fire is yet to be released.
