Once again the inspiring yacht designers Dubois Yachts and the expert yacht builders Alloy Yachts have teamed up to produce one of the world’s superior sailing yacht – the 52 meter Sailing Yacht Mondango.
Mondango has been meticulously designed and built with integral involvement by dedicated owners. The yacht’s design brief which is from Dubois Naval Architects is for a high performance aluminium ketch to be used for world luxury cruising and to have the ability to stay operational for extended voyages without shore based support.
Her dimension are a beam of 10.2m (33.5ft), draft of 4.9m (16.1ft) and a displacement of 350 tonnes. Yacht Mondango has been built to Lloyds Classification and complies with the Large Commercial Yacht Code LY2. The sailing yacht’s topsides are a majestic blue with a Matterhorn white superstructure.
Mondango is now and is the fifth yacht over 50 meters in length built by Alloy Yachts of New Zealand. She was launched in New Zealand with champagne across the bow and then made its way under the control of two tugs from the yard to the Viaduct Basin in Auckland’s Waitemata Harbour.
There is much experience behind Mondango as Alloy Yachts have also created Sailing yacht Salperton which was launched 2002 as well as Squall 2002 and S/Y Tiara which was launched 2004. However, Mondango’s superstructure extends further aft than other Alloy and Dubois yachts, which created a large curved cockpit area and side windows which can be opened or closed allowing for climate control.
Mondango’s interior design was by Reymond Langton and is provides accommodation for 10 guests. Guest accommodation provides for an owner’s suite and four guest suites, two including a Pullman berth. The crew layout has 5 cabins all with en-suites for a crew of 10 individuals. Her large flybridge is accessed from the cockpit.
Her flooring cut in a unique radial design with a wool and silk carpet for the utmost of comfort. Soft curves combined with bold colour choices and lighting which gives the interior a voluptuous ambience.
Her accommodation on the lower deck comprises of a full beam Owners stateroom, two VIP cabins and two twin berthed guest cabins. The Reymond Langton designed interior includes a large saloon with formal dining area for up to 10 guests and her modern style presents a light clean timber interior in Oak and Macassar ebony.
Mondango has carbon fibre masts by Marten Spars of New Zealand which hold fully battened in-boom furling. The yacht’s sails are by North sails and there are 18 captive and 8 vertical winches. Indeed, the entire winch package designed and built by Alloy Yachts.
Mondango’s main auxiliary engine is a 3412D 1200hp Caterpillar which gives a range of 7.200nm at 10 knots. She is also fitted with two 90kw Northern Lights generators and two water makers each supply up to 16000 liters per day. The Alloy Yacht’s custom SeaTouch system is installed with six touch screen monitors to indicate systems and alarm status. The CCTV operates with four cameras located throughout the yacht.
