Press Coverage about the 110 from Yacht Design:
“This is the
second craft that we’ve worked on
with this owner after the 93’,”
explains Mario Pedol. “So we’ve
known each other a long time and
have a great working relationship.
He’s also a real enthusiast and that
encouraged us to really push the
aesthetic research side in which he
also played an active role.
The newSW 110 is very much performance oriented
with a gorgeously low, sleek
deckhouse, uncompromising to the
last. The owner requested that
specifically, and it gave us the
opportunity to really do something
innovative with the interior layout.”
The new flagship had been part of
Willy Persico’s plans for some time and
work began on the female moulds last
September. Her waterlines and sail
plan are by Farr Yacht Design – a real
guarantee of blistering performance,
in other words. In fact according to its
Velocity Prediction Program (VPP), the
studio says that the SW110 will be
capable of hitting 10.83 knots towindward
in 8 knots of real wind.
This first SW 110 is a Raised Saloon
version with a 39-metre mast. A Deck
Saloon is also planned. Both will have
exactly the same production process
which was specially developed by the
yard’s R&D department. In both cases
too, the hull and deck will be built
from composite (Kevlar, Corecell,
carbon-fibre and epoxy resin for the
hull; carbon-fibre, Klegecell and
epoxy resin for the deck) using the
infusion technique. The latter delivers
absolutely superior end product
quality compared to traditional
lamination techniques, of course, and
also avoids the workforce having to
come into direct contact with the
resins.
This technique combined with the use
of three-part rather than two-part
moulds makes for excellent control of
both the lamination process and
weights, resulting in an impressively
light displacement of just 77 tonnes.
Of course, the honeycomb used for
most of the furnishings also helped
greatly too.”
