Blohm + Voss built and Philippe Starck designed extraordinary superyacht ‘A’ one of the most influential yachts of our time. This 119m Super Yacht was first heard of when in 2004 the German shipbuilder Blohm + Voss announced their new project for a new large motor yacht Sigma SF99. Together with the announcement, a rendering of this impressive design was released to the public, arousing the attention of all.

The luxury yacht seemed like something from the far future, with an axe bow, a hull and a superstructure resembling more a submarine. Since January 2008 the image of this vessel is no longer a secret. She was revealed to the wide world and since then, she is the most talked about vessel amongst the yachting enthusiasts.

Her beam is 17.2 meters in length and her draught is 4.66 metres.

‘Yacht’ is a hand bound and limited edition book of prints of many well known classic yachts – as painted by the renowned watercolourist Michael Frith. It was inspired by the America’s Cup Jubilee event at Cowes back in July 2001.

Michael Frith has been a sailor since childhood. He attended the Cowes Classic Yacht event as crew on the last wooden Nicholson yacht, Quiver V (1969). This gave Michael gave the opportunity to view many of the 150 yachts present in close up action. The amazing classic yachts moved him to begin recording the boats in paintings, a project that has since taken him to the Mediterranean and the Caribbean.

The artist Michael Frith has worked for many national newspapers including Newsweek, TIME, The Times and The Sunday Times. Michael has held 25 solo exhibitions, and his paintings form part of many private and public collections, including the National Portrait Gallery and the Bank of England.

The book Yacht has a foreword by Harry Spencer, of Spencer Rigging, and an essay by Dan Houston, editor of Classic Boat. It also includes a pictorial index of the names and specifications of the classic yachts that appear in the paintings. The book runs to 160 A3 landscape pages, and each of the 1000 copies is signed and numbered by the artist.
