Big Fish, a creation of McMullen & Wing, finally set out for Viaduct Basin in Auckland, New Zealand after completing its trials. This 45m Aquos Yacht is now ready for the last refit work before it is submitted to its owner in the end of May.

In the initial stage of the journey, two harbor tugs had supported Big Fish in circumventing sandbars on the Tamaki River and get a low bridge clearance at Achilles Point. This 45m yacht which began cruising early on the 3rd of May from the shipyard of McMullen & Wing sailed towards the Motukorea Channel entirely on its individual ability.

Big Fish was able to cruise at a speed of 14 knots while reaching full throttle at 1625 RPM. Its anchor drop test was followed by a detailed set of maneuvering trials. One had to be there to witness the excellent performance of the wing stations and bridge helm propulsion controls. Later in the afternoon, the yacht was anchored at the Viaduct where the delighted captain, crew, project manager and team of shipyard workers and suppliers were present to welcome the yacht.

The following day the mast and observation pod assembly were riveted atop the yacht using a large crane. However, once it is delivered it will be ready for the first phase of its itinerary – Polar Circumnavigation around the globe. Before it begins with its charter career, it will also be halting at the enthralling islands of French Polynesia.

After Tahiti, Big Fish is expected to travel to Fort Lauderdale for the international boat show. Later, on reaching Antarctica, the yacht will continue chartering by providing the yacht enthusiasts with the world’s premier luxury fly-in, fly-out charters of the frozen continent commencing in December end.
