Sailing yacht MALTESE FALCON, perhaps the most written about and famous superyacht in the world, has an interested buyer and is soon to be sold for a confidential figure. The famous American venture capitalist and keen yachtsman, Tom Perkins, who helped finance Google amongst other business successes, is reportedly close to completing the sale of his huge modern clipper style superyacht the Maltese Falcon.

The deal necessitated the now ‘normal’ price cut, however a buyer for superyacht MALTESE FALCON has finally been found, after around a year on the yacht sales market. MALTESE FALCON is one of the longest and most expensive private sailing yachts ever built. The yacht was also revolutionary in many different areas, from sailing technological advancements to unique and pioneering yacht design.

Tom Perkins, 75, was amongst the early visionary technology pioneer businessmen who help found California’s Silicon Valley. Mr. Perkin’s venture capital firm also helped finance the set up of Google and he is also a non executive director of the News Corporation, which is the owner of the UK The Sunday Times, where this story broke.

Perkins declined to say who had bought the famous megayacht MALTESTE FALCON however he is understood to have slashed the superyacht’s price, in keeping with economic times. The asking price for MALTESTE FALCON was at one stage well over 100 million Euros and may well have sold for well below that figure – around £60m, reportedly: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article6736074.ece This is approximately the price he spent having the sailing yacht built very successfully built in Turkey by now four years ago.

Perkins also commented: “It has taken a while. It is not the best time in the world to sell it. I can’t tell you anything at all about the buyer. There is confidentiality.”

The 88.00m (288′ 8″) yacht design and rig concept is Tom Perkins vision and she was designed in collaboration with Perini Navi and Ken Freivokh Design.

MALTETSE FALCON is a modern response to the aborted 1960s concept to re-launch clippers as fast merchant ships such as the 19th-century Cutty Sark,.

Based on a Perini Navi hull built by Yildiz, with a ground breaking Dynarig rig concept where there are no stays and ropes to unfurl the yacht’s huge and powerful square rig as developed by Gerry Dijkstra and Partners. This sailing design and sails (Doyle made) have been enormously successful in propelling the sailing yacht to fantastic speeds and allowing the yacht to maneuver and sail by pushing buttons and with fewer crew.

The massive sailing yacht has guest accommodation for up to 12 guests sleeping in 6 cabins. The VIP cabin is also up on the yacht’s upper deck so special friends can receive the utmost luxury along with the yacht’ owner who has a full beam master cabin and a separate dressing room and private gym. She also has a further four guest suites that can convert into two enormous VIP suites.

Yacht owner Tom Perkins had previously made MLATESE FALCON available for luxury yacht charters at a cost of around 373,000 Euro per week plus expenses. http://www.charterworld.com/index.html?sub=yacht-charter&charter=sailing-yacht-malte ... It is not known whether the superyacht’s new owner will also make her available for charter vacations to the worlds wealthy elite. Contact your preferred yacht charter broker for details.
