Back on August the 2nd LiveYachting featured a news report that famous sailing yacht MALTESE FALCON has been sold. We can now bring you further updates and information about the yacht’s sale and what her owner was looking for in a superyacht.

Superyacht MALTESE FALCON is a ‘ground breaking’ superyacht and one of the world’s largest sailing yachts at 88m LOA. She was built by Perini Navi in Turkey and her sale represents the most significant yacht sale since the start of the world economic downturn.

Burgess was the yacht brokerage which was involved in representation of both buyer and seller in the superyacht sale according to Alev Karagulle of Burgess who confirmed the Boat International Magazine that yet another milestone in the company’s history of selling very large yachts has come to fruition.

The new owner of yacht MALTESE FALCON was reportedly attracted the sailing yacht’s naturally green credentials. The ease of sailing this huge mega yacht by utilizing the wind’s energy in a pioneering and efficient way makes her one of the most environmentally advanced superyachts afloat.

CEO Jonathan Beckett of yacht brokerage Burgess stated that yacht’s sale was concluded following a one year process and that the sale price was close to the asking price of €70 million. The joint listing agent for Maltese Falcon’s sale was Bruce Brakenhoff of Perini Navi USA.

“Aesthetics, technology and sustainability were all very key factors for the buyer and Maltese Falcon ticked all the boxes.” explains Jonathan.
