The Russian/UK billionaire businessman, superyacht owner and football club owner, Roman Abramovich has taken delivery of his superb new explorer/expedition superyacht called motor yacht LUNA. He arrived at his new yacht in Kristiansand, Norway by helicopter, which has a couple of helidecks. The Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich (43) first arrived in Norway via his private jet on Kjevik Airport.
After landing went formalities lynkjapt on Kjevik, and only 20 minutes later, Abramovich went to inspect motor yacht LUNA and got on his way into a waiting helicopter far south of the runway. Abramovich has held two private planes and two helicopters into the swing of Kjevik to bring his family to see LUNA.
Explorer yacht Luna is 115 meters long and she is the largest explorer luxury yacht in the world and the second largest super yacht launches last year, beaten only by Abramovich’s own mega yacht “Eclipse”, a luxury monster at 164 meters, and the largest yacht in the world. The two new build luxury yachts make part of what is certainly the most revered personal fleet on the water.Launched last October 2009 by Lloyd Werft and Stahlbau Nord Shipyards of Germany, the 115m Motor Yacht Luna has recently undergone outfitting and painting prior to her delivery to Abramovich. Expedition yacht Luna has now made her way to her happy new superyacht owner, Abramovich, who travelled with his family around the Kristiansand Archipelago, enjoying a day out.
Designs have also been released for Luna’s innovative design by Newcruise Design which was responsible for M/Y Luna’s exterior styling. Her exterior boasts two helicopter pads facing forward, to the rear around the large communications tower. She also has aft transom doors which lead to the yacht’s tender and water toy garage – one of the specific purposes of super yacht LUNA. Her large, open aft deck also features a large swimming pool and sunbathing areas with a dedicated open luxury leisure area featuring a beach club leading down to the swim platform.
M/Y Luna is an expedition yacht in her own class, as is ECLIPSE. She also enables her owner to cruise huge distances without having to stop or refuel. As an expedition yacht, she can navigate challenging sea ways and weather conditions as well as providing a luxury yacht amenities and other equipment.
In 2008, Forbes ranked Mr. Abramovich as Russia’s most successful and wealthiest businessman.
His wealth is estimated to be somewhere around 170 billion. He also owns the English soccer club Chelsea.
One can speculate a lot about why he has called his newest yacht for just “Luna”, but one possible explanation may lie in the Soviet Union’s space program. The same year that Abramovich was born in 1966, Mykland Luna 9 on the moon.
