The China State Council had introduced a plan to build upon Hainan as an international tourism destination on 1st December 2009. This plan known as the ‘Ideas for the acceleration of the development of the tourism industry’ drew interest upon the significance of yachting in the future development of the island. The 2010 Hainan Rendez-Vous to be organized in April 2nd-4th at the Visun Marina in Sanya will reinforce the island’s status as the new Chinese Riviera.

Hainan is committed to develop its marine and yachting industries as it considers them to be an integral part of the tourism sector. The show will be making its premier with strong support from the Hainan government who will be the host sponsor of Asia’s premier show and concentrate on the luxury superyacht and megayacht sectors.

According to Madam Du Liying, director of Sanya Tourism Board, yachting will play a pivotal role in enhancing Hainan’s tourism development. With the scenic elongated coastline, bustling marine activities and numerous islands available, the Hainan lifestyle is something that the rest of the world needs to explore. The Tourism Board of Sanya believes in conserving and harnessing these resources for the benefit of the current and upcoming generations.

There are many other projects under completion in different sizes besides the newly introduced Visun Marina. With the level of progress achieved so far, the people involved hope that the island will be able to generate a thousand recreational craft in the coming years. The range of business at Hainan will comprise of varied types of boats – from the world’s biggest luxury motor yachts to family day boats, from tall ships to tenders, racing yachts to fishing boats, superyachts to ski boats. Therefore they will work towards satisfying all the requirements of the yachting fraternity who wish to explore the Chinese Riviera’s warm waters.

According to Mr Wang Dafu, Chairman of Visun Real Estate group, established property developer and co-organizer of Hainan Rendez-Vous, Hainan possesses a remarkable maritime background, a panoramic coastline and stunning waters. The combination of all these factors is likely to take Hainan to greater heights in the local yachting industry.

Besides these advancements, there are few other new and biggest real estate projects manufacturing marina equipments in Hainan. Further, the Clear Water Bay is likely to be transformed into a superyacht marina with the efforts of French Marina expert NDA Marine. The Phoenix Island project set at a distance from the Visun Marina will be featuring an exciting marina design by avant-gard Beijing architect firm MAD.

China Rendez-Vous, the Hainan Rendez-Vous organizer, is overwhelmed with the positive response received from the international circle of yachting industry so far. A significant number of popular yacht builders have registered themselves for the show. Yacht builders such as Azimut-Benetti, Sunseeker, Princess Yachts, Lurssen, Bloem & Voss, Royal Huisman, Marquis Yachts, Ferretti Yachts and Pershing will be present there. Also, more than 4,000 visitors are expected to be at the show. It will be a first of sorts in China that yachts over 50m will be showcased. The show will be displaying the highest ever number of yachts on the water in China.

Delphine Lignieres, Director of China Rendez-Vous maintains that the event will offer brand new, superlative business prospects in a very rich and largely untapped market resulting in a higher demand. This kind of a profitable situation at the Chinese yachting market and opportunity is likely to attract the global market which is presently reeling under heavy competition.
