An experienced yacht owner couple, the former owners of motor yacht Twizzle, have brought an exciting team together to build the 57 meter ketch rigged center board superyacht S/Y TWIZZLE – including Dubois Yacht Designers, Royal Huisman Yacht Builders and Redman Whiteley Dixon Design group. She is to be launched in early 2010 and it is not yet known whether this private sailing yacht will be availalble for charter.

The project has produced three important “firsts” for Royal Huisman:

Sailing yacht TWIZZLE is Royal Huisman’s first yacht completely styled by the gifted team of Redman Whiteley Dixon, with Todhunter Designers providing interior decoration. Our first build with naval architecture by Ed Dubois. Our first sailing yacht with a flying bridge.

A very motivating aspect of this project for Royal Huisman is the comprehensive involvement of the owners alongside the architects, the stylists and the yard – a real working partnership within a stimulating team culture.

This elegant, 57.5m flybridge ketch is a noteworthy project for Royal Huisman and is the yard’s first yacht completely styled, inside and out, by the talented team of Redman, Whiteley Dixon – with interior décor from Todhunter Earle Associates. Naval architecture by Ed Dubois Associates represents another long-anticipated first for the yard; and this is Royal Huisman’s first flybridge sailing yacht.

Twizzle is a performance sailing yacht with the comfort and amenity of a motor yacht. This means she can cruise anywhere and offer the luxury of an motor yacht and the fuel efficiency of a sailboat.

Dubois have reduced wetted surface giving an easily friven hull and set a swing keel within the 3.8 meter draft fixed keel. Lightweight composite materials are widely used in the rig and in components above the waterline and an optimised beam and 120 tons of internal ballast secure stiffness and stability.

Sailing yacht Twizzle’s rig will carry 1,780 m2 of sail and with ithe ketch configuration the 62m mainmast can clear the Panama’s Bridge of the Americas at low water.

Justin Redman and his group have shaped a graceful flying bridge. This combines a stylish profile with airiness and light below and together with Emily Todhunter there is a defined interior with owners’ and guests’ accommodation at the aft of the yacht’s engine room and crew forward.

A central dining area and saloon are then positioned amidships above the engine room with the main galley on a mezzanine deck and the pilothouse on a raised deck.

Twizzle will sail from Vollenhove in early Spring 2010.

The significant experience the owners have had with two previous yachts a 47m Perini Navi and a 55m Feadship helps with an informed focus for their team choices and challenges.

An interest in technology and design means frequent participatation in meetings at the yard, at the designers, and at their own offices to stimulate ideas and momentum.

Two 6.4m Castoldi tenders stow in a garage on the main deck, above the crew cabins.

The owners went with Royal Huisman not only for the reputation, Dutch spirit and teamwork, but because they valued the contribution our “all under one roof” building philosophy would make to the efficiency, quality and harmony of the design and build process.

57.5m. (188.64′) Performance Cruising Ketch

Dubois yachts are delighted to be working with Royal Huisman Shipyard on the new 57 metre ketch – Twizzle.

Many observers believe that this is the first Dubois design to be built at Royal Huisman but in fact it is the second – the first was a 41 foot racing yacht designed by Ed in 1978!

In the case of the new Twizzle, the layout and superstructure design is, uniquely, not the responsibility of the Dubois office but instead was developed by Redman Whiteley Dixon.

The close relationship that Dubois have with RWD allowed them to develop the naval architecture around that overall concept and leant heavily on the experience we gained with the 53.5 metre Nirvana – just launched in late 2007.

A centreboard yacht, Twizzle has a single engine but relatively shallow draft and good stability from generous beam and displacement.

A large sail area will ensure this yacht’s good performance and we see this concept and the project as a whole as being one of the most exciting sail boats in construction today.
