Few days ago we informed you about the re-building of the famous J-class Sailing Yacht Rainbow, whose construction has already begun at the Bloemsma Aluminiumbouw at Makkum, Holland. We just received more updates on this ongoing project.

The whole re-building process will be done under the supervision of Dykstra & Partners. Dykstra & Partners have more than 20 years of experience with J Class sailing yachts and have also been responsible for the re-builds and refits of: Shamrock V, Endeavour, Velsheda, Ranger and the new Hanuman.

The new Rainbow will be made of aluminum, along with lightweight construction and high overall stiffness to improve the overall sailing performance. The interior of the new Raibow will be kept in alignment with the original design. Below the deck, the yacht’s interior will represent 1930s styling, along with all modern comforts and amenities.

Moreover, the superstructure will have clear flush decks. The rig and sail handling systems will be similar to other J class high modulus carbon spars, carbon rigging, 3DL sails and hydraulic winches in accordance with the JCA (J Class Association) Rules. On completion of the hull, Rainbow will be transported by barge, to Holland Jachtbouw where the rest of the construction process would be carried out. The yacht will be able to accommodate 8 guests and 8 crew members.

Almost all the J Class fans are keeping a close watch on the progress of this iconic racing yacht. After all, who doesn’t was to see the repetition of the 1934 America’s Cup races, however this time between the original Endeavour and the new replica Rainbow .
