Vacuum Infusion technology is a technology introduced by Sunreef yachts in the year 2007. The technology provides yachts with added strength, while keeping the overall weight of the boats lighter, achieving weight stability curves with improved weight saving ratios along with maintaining highest level of quality. The technology also allows reducing the waste, thereby adding a considerable cost saving and at the same time being a much more environmentally friendly.

Including Sunreef Yachts, there are very few shipyards in the world that uses epoxy resin systems and high performance fiberglass products coupled with carbon reinforcement in high load area of yachts. Carbon fiber parts of yachts are generally made by vacuum infusion technology. The finished product made by the vacuum infusion technology is not only similar to dry carbon in quality but is also more affordable.

The vacuum infusion technology uses vacuum pressure to drive resin into a laminate, which could be made from fiberglass, carbon fiber or Kevlar. These materials are then laid try into the mold and then the vacuum is applied before the resin is introduced. Once a complete vacuum is achieved, resin is literally sucked into the laminate via carefully placed tubing. This whole process is aided by number of tools and materials.

The main advantage of vacuum infusion technology is that it can produce laminates with a uniform degree of consolidation and high strength, while keeping the structure lightweight.

may be they are first for a catamaran but I am sure some other builders have done this before them
Azimut started in 2005/06 I think with the 47 model and Pershing and Franchini in end 90s with the Scrimp system
I am sure some US builders are ahead for this to the Europeans but cant remember the names right now
still interesting for Sunreef, they are reinventing catamaran design IMO
