Luxury motor yacht A was built by Blohm + Voss of Germany and designed by Stark design. Previously project SIGMA the famous motor yacht is perhaps the most characterizing superyacht currently in existence.
The Blohm & Voss luxury yacht features details including a glass roof looking up into one of the two swimming pools. Yacht A is 387 (119m) feet long, with three pools, one master suite, six guest suites, and rooms for 42 staff. A is powered by twin 6.035hp MAN RK280 Diesels, providing speeds up to 23 knots. At her top speed, she has a range of 4250nm. Her cruising speed of 19.5 knots, gives her a range of 6500nm.
Motor yacht A, launched by Blohm & Voss in 2008 recently returned to her German builder for yard work after her initial summer season.
German photographer Carl Groll is responsible for many of the photos of yacht A that you will see on the internet. He has photographed the yacht during sea trials, off the coast of Germany.
A, designed by Philippe Starck, is without doubt the most idiosyncratic superyacht ever launched. Yacht designer Philip Starck also designed motor yacht Wedge Too which is also very different from the norm in yacht design
The luxury motor yachts name A derives from the first letter of both owners first names: Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko and his wife Aleksandra.
Special features include the superyachts stern and side hatches where through innovative engineering and design, the stern hatch opens up as a huge swim platform over the sea. Also, several side garages host tenders, including the 11 meter main guest tender which was also designed by Starck.
Yacht A has three swimming pools on her top deck, aft deck, and foredeck, with the foredeck pool being the largest of the three and positioned at an angle on the foredeck. This pool is also is equipped with a water jet that creates a current to swim against.
The main decks pace on Yacht A is the large open foredeck, which is accessible from the main saloon. On this deck the bulwarks provide security, although when traveling at 23 knots at sea, this deck may be uncomfortable. Also here, to forward of the ‘cockpit area’, is a touch and go helipad.
Interestingly, the Times Online recently reported that the $400 million megayacht recently motored to Norway to pick up three Monet paintings.
