There’s no better way to go island hopping in Greece than on a fantastic yacht charter holiday from Turkey. There are many islands in each group so a variety of different itineraries can be created to give you the most satisfying Greek Island hopping experience.

These groups of islands in Greece are referred to as the island complexes, and different from each other: Cyclades, the Dodecanese, the Northeast Aegean Islands, the Argo-Saronic Islands, the Sporades and the Ionian Islands. There are also the islands of Crete & Evia.

There are 40 inhabited islands out of the 220 islands in total in the Cyclades and located in the middle of the Aegean Sea, and have easy access from Athens. Cyclades has a circular formation and comes from the Greek word “kiklos”, meaning circle. The most visited Greek islands are Mykonos and Santorini. The cube shaped, white-washed houses with blue windows is possibly what has made this island complex so recognized and famous worldwide.

The more known island in the Dodecanese comprise of twelve islands. Dodecanese comes from the Greek word “dodeka”, which means twelve. However there are about 150 islands, most of them uninhabited in this island complex. The Dodecanese islands are situated in the southeastern part of the Aegean Sea and neighbors Turkey. That is why many of the most popular island gulet charters from Turkey to the Greek Islands is the Dodecanese. The most popular yacht charter destinations in the Dodecanese are the islands of Rhodes and Kos.

A small island complex, the Argo-Saronic has seven inhabited islands and neighbors both Athens and Piraeus. This island complex is named after their location; Gulf of Saronic and the Gulf of Argolic. Within close proximity to Athens are the islands of Salamina and Spetses. There is also the island of Hydra which maintains its traditional architecture and style due to the prohibition of vehicles.

The Sporades are located in the northern part of the Aegean Sea. There are a total of 24 islands, however only the islands Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos and Skyros inhabited.
