Yacht Charters in Turkey - How to plan your itinerary for a Gulet Cruise

Yacht charters in Turkey are a splendid way to explore the vast history and culture Turkey has to offer. The Southern coast of Turkey is full of ancient ruins left by many civilizations from thousands of years ago. It is also a fantastic way to be in the Mediterranean sun as you cruise the blue on board a private gulet.

One of the first choices made in these types of holidays is the gulet itself. Once you have established which yacht you wish to hire, the next step is to figure out where you would like to go, what places you would like to see and what sort of activities you are interested in spending your time doing while at sea.

Popular harbors for embarkation in Turkey are Bodrum, Marmaris, Fethiye, Gocek and Antalya; however Bodrum and Marmaris are the most popular as they are closest to the Greek Islands. So if you wanted to visit countries in one gulet cruise, you could definitely fit in a few islands in the North or South Dodecanese.

Many of the itineraries offer a mixture of peaceful bays, bustling city harbors and ultimately private coves. So how you plan your itinerary really depends on what you wish to do on your gulet trip.

Let’s take the Bodrum – Hisaronu – Bodrum itinerary. In this route we have one major port; Bodrum and then the villages from the Marmaris region. With this itinerary you can not only enjoy the night life of Bodrum but also have your peace and quiet when you drop anchor in bays of the the villages. A similar route to this one is the Bodrum – Gulf of Gokova – Bodrum route. Again with this you have the one major port being Bodrum, but also the smaller villages with their bays in between your gulet cruise.

Now if you wanted to blend in more culture, a route that includes the nearby Greek Islands would be a fabulous choice. From Bodrum, gulets cruise to the North or South Dodecanese, the Sporades, the Ionian islands and the famous Cyclades where you can enjoy the colors of the islands of Santorini and Mykonos – highly popular by choice.

If we cruise our gulet to the opposite direction – to the East, beginning in the beautiful harbor of Marmaris, we can either go to the Greek Islands, as like from Bodrum; or simply point our compasses to the lovely city of Fethiye or the charming port of Gocek. A Marmaris – Fethiye – Marmaris would be an itinerary where you will experience anchorage in two major ports of call. Both seaside cities offer plenty of waterfront dinning and a very lively nightlife. You can also combine a one way itinerary from Bodrum to Marmaris as well as the Greek Islands for a very great journey of much to see and do!

For your yacht charter in Turkey, if you were to embark in Gocek, there is a route where you can begin in this little town and cruise to the Greek Islands and finish off in Bodrum. Or you could begin in Gocek, stay in and around the region and visit the world reknown 12 islands.

The combinations are just about endless. The best way to determine what might be the most enjoyable for you – although they all are a dream – is to consult with a private yacht charter company who knows the regions first hand and can discuss what your choices could be.

If a blue voyage is where you want to be, then a dream holiday aboard a classic Turkish yacht, we call a gullet, may be one of the best choices in holidays you may just make!
