News: Yachting Pages and SYOG earn record sales at this year’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show

November 9, 2009 by Yachting_Pages

The 50th anniversary of the world’s largest boat show ended on Monday 2nd November after welcoming around 100,000 yachting enthusiasts. The waterfront of Fort Lauderdale showcased the world’s richest inventory of yachts, including M/Y Trident, a 65metre Feadship and M/Y Sweet Pea, a 50metre Feadship presented by YACHTZOO. Also on display was Fortunato, presented by Merle Wood & Associates Inc and Blue Moon, a 60metre Feadship presented by Northrop and Johnson. M/Y Elandess was also on display. Presented and built by Abeking & Rasmussen Schiffs, this 60metre yacht boasts a stunning interior designed by Bannenberf & Rowell Design. This year’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show welcomed more superyachts than ever before with a total 209 yachts over 24metres on display.

Yachting Pages and SYOG (Superyacht Owners’ Guide) were exhibiting in the USSA Village in Bahia Mar. The USSA Village was busy throughout the show, with drinks receptions on Thursday and Saturday and visitors seeking shelter from the heat-wave that hit Fort Lauderdale during the show. Around 1,000 copies of the USA, Americas and Caribbean edition of Yachting Pages were distributed throughout the show to superyachts, other exhibitors and visiting industry professionals. The new edition of SYOG, which was released in Monaco earlier this year, once again proved to be extremely popular with over 800 being snapped up.

Many events took place throughout the week for captains, crew, exhibitors and media. Yachting Pages and SYOG sponsored one of the main crew events, the YachtInfo Crew Seminars. Taking place on Friday 30th October, the seminars offered a wide ranging curriculum for entry level crew to seasoned professionals. Each attendee was given their own copy of the ‘Captain’s Bible’. The seminars were followed by the Captain’s Briefing and a cocktail party. Friday evening was the annual Luerssen Party. Set in a Caribbean Pirates Lair, hundreds of guests drank rum punch from goblets and enjoyed a themed meal served by pirates.

The show has received glittering reviews from many industry and economic sources, claiming a higher concentration of serious buyers. Yachting Pages achieved record sales during the show, with more superyacht businesses signing up than ever before. The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is often considered as a bellwether for the year ahead for the maritime industries, and its indisputable success is likely to boost confidence in the whole superyacht industry.

Yachting Pages and SYOG would like to say thank you to the USSA and to the organisers of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show for making the show such a success. The US Superyacht Association is a trade association of over 120 members with the objective “to promote the superyacht industry of the U.S. and serve as its voice”.
