The yacht industry surprisingly experienced a positive outcome in this year’s Miami International Boat Show and Yacht and Brokerage Show. Last year the shows had to suffer from the scorching heat and lowered interests from the potential buyers. However, in 2010 the events exuded some hope of improvement from the exhibitor’s perspective although two weeks ago they lived through the unsteady conditions of the US stock market.

The first two days of the show were a busy affair for all the brokers who must have dejectedly spent their time flipping magazines in the cockpits and talking on mobiles last year. In the face of the heavy snowfall which upset the air travel plans to and from the northeastern US, the aura later on seemed to be hopeful and filled with buzzing activities where the brokers and builders trading on the basis of live clients for the yachts. Despite the deals which are yet to be signed, the show was a hit with many builders who were inquisitive to know more about the new yachts. Michael Moore, Maritime attorney had noticed a brokerage client to be contemplating on replacing his existing boat by a new one.

The superyacht builders in the US and many others in the yacht industry are optimistic about the market to gain financial stability with the pipelines starting to run dry for the year 2010. But the crisis in the European and Middle economies is likely to spread gloom over the progressive scene of the industry.

Moreover, the show unveiled the completion of a deal – a dual effort of U.S. brokerage house Northrop and Johnson and Hong Kongs Asia Yacht Services. This agreement on board a yacht was finalized to establish an association in Asian continent – Northrop and Johnson Asia. Thus, the event in contrast to the last year’s nadir performance was highly optimistic.

The Riva Sportriva 56, the Ferretti Altura 840, the Ferretti 881 RPH and the Ferretti 592 made a debut at the show while representing their builders – the Ferritti Group. Allied Marine which is the firm’s US subsidiary revealed the travel schedules for the spring and summer owner rendezvous events. There were some 24 yachts for the group showcase in Miami. Whereas Vicem builders from Turkey threw open their plans for expansion, additional personnel and models. Trinity Yachts reportedly showed eagerness towards new projects. MCC, the Hong Kong-based firm announced the design for a 38m explorer yacht besides the Marco Polo line of yachts. Though all the yacht enthusiasts who were there at the show didn’t approve of any signs of improvement in the business, the program is believed to have come out of its dark phase.
